Senior Resource Center for Douglas County

The Senior Resource Center for Douglas County, Inc. provides resources, services, programming and advocacy that enhance the quality of the second half of life. SRC is a source of information for seniors, their families and professionals. SRC itself provides many direct services: Senior Wheels (transportation), Medicare counseling and enrollment (during open enrollment and year round for initial enrollments), support groups, legal aid, emergency financial assistance, tax assistance and produces the Better Senior Living newsletter with schedules for classes, clubs, social events and more.

Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging (JAAA)(Lawrence)

Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging (JAAA) provides information, referral and services for older Kansans and their caregivers residing in Shawnee, Jefferson and Douglas Counties. JAAA is a bridge to the aging network providing services for seniors such as case management, caregiver support, and information and outreach. Adult Day Care Options

"Adult day care" means any place or facility operating less than 24 hours a day caring for individuals not related within the third degree of relationship to the operator or owner by blood or marriage and who, due to functional impairment, need supervision of or assistance with activities of daily living.

 

Home Plus Facility Options

"Home plus" means any residence or facility caring for not more than 12 individuals due to functional impairment, needs personal care and may need supervised nursing care to compensate for activities of daily living limitations. Personnel of any home plus who provide services for residents with dementia shall be required to take annual dementia care training.

 

Residential Care Facility Options

“Residential health care facility" means any place or facility, or a contiguous portion of a place or facility, caring for six or more individuals who by choice or due to functional impairments, may need personal care and may need supervised nursing care to compensate for activities of daily living limitations and in which the place or facility includes individual living units and provides or coordinates personal care or supervised nursing care available on a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week basis for the support of resident independence. Resident units are not required to have a kitchen.

Assisted Living Facility Options

"Assisted living facility" means any place or facility caring for six or more individuals who, by choice or due to functional impairments, may need personal care and may need supervised nursing care to compensate for activities of daily living. An ALF must provide apartments with kitchens for residents and provide or coordinate a range of services that are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to support resident independence.

 

Skilled Nursing Facility Options

"Skilled nursing care" means services performed by or under the immediate supervision of registered professional nurse and additional licensed nursing personnel. Skilled nursing includes administration of medications and treatments as prescribed by a licensed physician or dentist; and other nursing functions which require substantial nursing judgment and skill based on the knowledge and application of scientific principles.

 

Home Health Agency

"Home health agency" means a public or private agency or organization or a subdivision that provides for a fee one or more home health services at the residence of a patient. In Kansas, two different licenses are available, Class A (skilled home health agency) and Class B (non-medical home health care).

 

Skilled Home Health Agencies (Class A)

Skilled home health agencies administer skilled Kansas licensed nursing and rehab therapy services under physician’s orders with strict guidelines imposed. CNA’s operate under the direction of an RN. Services can be billed under Medicare or Medicaid if skilled care is being provided, otherwise services are private pay.

 

Non-Medical Home Health Agencies (CLASS B)

Non-medical home care services in Kansas include personal care, assistance with daily living activities, housekeeping and transportation and cannot be billed through Medicare or Medicaid, therefore, are all private pay.

Lisa Graves owns Speech Solutions and provides private in-home speech therapy for not only seniors, but also children.   When insurance no longer covers the therapy that you know is working, Lisa is a great resource to continue with.  She not only works with seniors, but she is also works with pediatrics and teens.
